12 So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.
I realize that sometimes I come across as very unfeeling and uncompassionate. I have been accused of being without compassion and mercy. I see why some people might say that, but the reality is I'm very compassionate. I would never do to others what is done to my family on a very regular basis.
I homeschool the children that the Lord has given us to raise. It occurs to me that it would not be a very kind thing for me to go to my neighbor's house and demand that he give me thousands of dollars to educate my children and then, furthermore, add that if he does not pay me thousands of dollars to educate my children well, then, I will use the power of the state to force him to pay said thousands of dollars or be forced off their property at gunpoint. Yet, that is precisely what almost 90% of the population w/ school age children does. Too chicken and lazy to do the bidding themselves (and knowing in their hearts that it really is a lame thing to do), they let the state do the dirty work, and to make themselves feel better, they may hit their fellow friends and families up for a little private charity (aka *fundraising*). I love my neighbor too much to do that to them.
I also love my neighvor too much to allow (LOL) them to pay for my family's food and medicine. I operate under the antiquated notion of personal responsibility. Somehow, I just don't think it's right to ask (force) my neighbor to pay for an epidural (not that I've ever had one in 8 births, thank you very much) or my filet mignon with bacon wrapped around it (can you believe those home delivery meat companies actually take food stamps? I bought from them once, and that was only because my sister gave me a great deal through her barter!) If you think it's okay to steal (i.e. be the beneficiary of a wealth transfer program) from your neighbor and think it's a loving thing to do....well..whatever....I do not agree and cannot argue where there is nothing logical against which to argue).
Off to love on my world-changing, wealth transfer hating children.....
